In 2026, the Association of Innovative Pharmaceutical Manufacturers is once again launching the Health Literacy Award, through which we aim to recognise and showcase more widely those programmes, initiatives and professional efforts that make a meaningful contribution to improving people’s health literacy.
Communicating healthcare information in a credible, understandable and accessible way is becoming an increasingly important social responsibility. Improving health literacy helps people navigate healthcare information with greater confidence, make more informed decisions about their own health and better understand the options available to support prevention, health maintenance or recovery.
This year, we are once again looking for innovative, effective and exemplary initiatives for the Health Literacy Award that make a tangible contribution to improving the understanding of healthcare information, developing health awareness and supporting more informed decision-making by patients and the general public.
The award is expanded with a new category
One of the key new features of the 2026 award is that, for the first time, the work of healthcare professionals will be recognised in a separate category. Healthcare professionals are in direct contact with patients during everyday patient care and therefore play a key role in ensuring that healthcare information becomes understandable, accessible and usable in practice. With this new category, we aim to draw attention to initiatives by healthcare professionals that support patient education, information provision and the development of health literacy.
The categories of the 2026 Health Literacy Award are:
-
Healthcare institutions
-
Civil society organisations
-
Youth category
-
Healthcare influenc
-
Healthcare professionals category – new category in 2026
The broad range of categories provides an opportunity for the different stakeholders involved in improving health literacy to present their work, achievements and good practices. The submitted applications will be evaluated by a professional jury, which will select the most outstanding entries in each category. The winners will be presented and recognised at the official Health Literacy Award ceremony.
Improving health literacy is a shared responsibility. Healthcare institutions, civil society organisations, young people, influencers and healthcare professionals can all contribute to ensuring that credible healthcare information reaches as many people as possible and becomes truly understandable and usable in everyday life.
If you are working on a programme, initiative or solution that contributes to improving health literacy, showcase your work and apply for the 2026 Health Literacy Award!
