The AIPM conference focused on the domestic and international burden of respiratory diseases, the importance of early diagnosis, modern treatment options and the role of prevention. Particular attention was given to COPD and lung cancer, as well as to the problem that several hundred thousand patients in Hungary may remain undiagnosed or may only enter the healthcare system at a late stage. Experts emphasised the importance of targeted screening, reducing smoking, smoking cessation support and ensuring that patients enter care more quickly. One of the main messages of the conference was that early detection and appropriate treatment can significantly reduce the risk of deterioration, hospitalisation and premature mortality.
